However, wind power generation in Japan is still low compared to international standards, and the cost of power generation is high. Therefore, we have been working on small-scale power generation, especially small vertical-axis wind turbines, to adapt the wind turbines to the wind conditions in Japan.
In this study, (1) an auxiliary starting mechanism using wave force was installed in the device, (2) designed and fabricated to compare with drag and lift types, and (3) a rotational speed detection mechanism to introduce a braking system into the system. The drag-type wind turbine was tested in a simple wind tunnel. As a starting aid mechanism, a float attached to the bottom of the float support is floated on the surface of the water, and its vertical movement is converted into horizontal rotation by a combination of gears to turn the wind turbine shaft. The size of the wind turbine is 0.58 [m] in diameter, 0.73 × 0.23 [m] in blades, and 6.70 [kg] in total weight. As a result of the characteristic test of the drag-type wind turbine, it was confirmed that the cut-in wind speed was 3.7 [m/s], the sustained wind speed was 3.3 [m/s], and the maximum power was 0.50 [W] at a load resistance value of 150 [Ω]. For the brake system, a torque of approximately 0.06 to 0.12 [N-m] was obtained to determine the braking strength.
2025-04-15T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://jurcon.ums.edu.my/ojums/index.php/BIMP-EAGA/article/view/6322Analysis of the Operating Mechanism of the Hybrid Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine Using a Linkage Mechanism2025-04-14T21:48:09+08:00Yuki Sekiuchi24ES02@fukushima.kosen-ac.jpKou Mizutake24ES04@fukushima.kosen-ac.jpMizuyasu Koide24ES04@fukushima.kosen-ac.jpToshikazu Yamamoto24ES04@fukushima.kosen-ac.jpShinya Hashimoto24ES04@fukushima.kosen-ac.jpMakoto Iida24ES04@fukushima.kosen-ac.jp
Vertical-axis wind turbines are classified into lift and drag-based types. Currently, the issues facing the spread of vertical-axis wind turbines are that lift-based types have poor starting characteristics, while drag-based types produce low output at low speeds. To address these issues, we have proposed a linkage wind turbine that combines both types using a linkage mechanism. In the linkage wind turbine, the leading edges of the blades are attached evenly to the upper and lower disks, while the trailing edges are connected to the rods. These rods are connected at a location offset from the centre of rotation (rod centre), and the rod centre and rotational axis are linked by a small rod, forming a significant linkage mechanism. This mechanism enables the turbine to obtain rotational force in the same direction from both the left and right sides, as the left blade approaches a perpendicular angle to the wind direction and the right blade approaches a parallel angle.

2025-04-15T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://jurcon.ums.edu.my/ojums/index.php/BIMP-EAGA/article/view/6323Sustainable Leadership as a Management Approach for Addressing Global Environmental, Social, and Economic Challenges: Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK), Sabah.2025-04-14T21:41:02+08:00Christiana jonutchristiana.atic@gmail.comFelsy Joseph Sandichristiana.atic@gmail.com
This research paper explores sustainable leadership as a critical management approach that offers solutions to pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges in today's world. Sustainable leadership emphasizes long-term thinking, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to the well-being of people and the planet. This study examines the key principles and practices of sustainable leadership, including the integration of corporate social responsibility (CSR), stakeholder engagement, and innovation in sustainable practices. Through an interview to a key informant of DBKK Sabah and comprehensive review of case studies from diverse industries, this research highlights how sustainable leadership fosters organizational resilience, enhances stakeholder trust, and drives sustainable growth. It is suggested that organizations led by sustainable leaders are better equipped to navigate the complexities of global challenges, achieve competitive advantages, and contribute positively to society. This paper concludes by identified framework for DBKK in implementing sustainable leadership in organizations, emphasizing its role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promoting a more sustainable future for all.
2025-04-15T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://jurcon.ums.edu.my/ojums/index.php/BIMP-EAGA/article/view/6324Exploring Resilience and Self-Efficacy as Predictors of Sustainable Behaviour through Structural Equation Modelling2025-04-15T13:44:56+08:00Nor Azma binti Rahlinnorazma.rahlin@ums.edu.myXu YanHong752783664@qq.comAhmad Shakani Bin Abdullaha.shakani@ums.edu.my
Sustainability behavior in universities is increasingly recognized as a vital component of fostering environmental consciousness among university members, particularly academic staff. These elements not only enhance university member’s commitment to sustainable practices but also foster a supportive environment for green initiatives. While individual psychological factors like resilience and self-efficacy are crucial, many studies neglect how these traits interact with external factors. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine the influence of transformational leadership on sustainable behaviour practice, with a focus on how resilience and self-efficacy as mediators in this relationship. The respondents are academic staffs from Guangdong Province, representing key participants in implementing and experiencing campus sustainability practices. Using a sample of 241 academic staff from universities in Guangdong, the sample size was carefully determined with G*Power for adequate statistical power and selected through a convenience sampling method. The data was analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with SmartPLS 4, a powerful tool for evaluating complex relationships between variables. The results show that while transformational leadership plays a key role in fostering positive attitudes toward sustainability behaviour, it doesn’t directly translate into more active engagement in sustainable practices. In additional, the study reveals that resilience and self-efficacy act as important mediators in the relationship between transformational leadership and sustainability behaviour.
2025-04-15T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2025
