The increased use of social media in the information society era encourages the massive dissemination of information, thus creating an abundant and continuous flow of information (Information Flow). This condition encourages the emergence of two often contradictory behavioral tendencies: fear of missing out (FoMO) and information avoidance. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology to explore the process of information flow on social media affecting the formation of FoMO and Information Avoidance behaviors in the context of the information society. Based on a review that has been conducted on 21 kinds of literature, it is shown that the flow of information encourages users to always be connected and avoid missing important information. The large volume of information creates challenges social media users feel, such as stress and fatigue over information overload. As a result, social media users' responses tend to avoid information as a coping mechanism to reduce cognitive and emotional burdens. Examined using Frank Webster's characteristics of the information society, these two phenomena reflect a complex relationship and influence the mental well-being of users in the information society era.
ALF ARIRA ANANTA AYSYA MEGA PUTRI MAHADEWI ARLY MAYA BERLYANTI ZULFATUN SOFIYANI Copyright (c) 2026 Jurnal Komunikasi Borneo (JKoB) 2026-06-01 2026-06-01 14 1 1 27 10.51200/jkob.v14i1.7692 USAGE OF WHATSAPP APPLICATION AS A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM IN SABAH STATE LIBRARY https://jurcon.ums.edu.my/ojums/index.php/jkob/article/view/7926
In today's digital age, social media has become an integral part of our lives. The study aimed to examine headline framing, source types, and thematic patterns in the coverage of both media outlets. A total of 273 news articles published within the first seven days following the incident (174 from Astro Awani and 99 from Malaysiakini) were analysed using a mixed-methods content analysis approach, integrating quantitative analysis of content frequencies and distributions with qualitative thematic examination. Results show that both publications mainly used factual headlines and relied on official sources. However, Malaysiakini offered a wider range of themes, such as conflict and consequences, whereas Astro Awani focused on human interest and responsibility. In conclusion, the two media's different editorial concepts affected how they presented the crisis narratives, even though they both followed the rules of factual and source credibility. This study improves our knowledge of the media's function in crisis communication and emphasizes how crucial fair reporting and public media literacy are in influencing how society reacts to crises.
Nuremylia Maisyara Rosli Muhammad Raqib Mohd Sofian Safiyyah Ahmad Sabri Copyright (c) 2026 2026-06-01 2026-06-01 14 1 54 68 10.51200/jkob.v14i1.7935 AN ANALYSIS OF THE SAMARINDA CITY GOVERNMENT’S DIGITAL PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMUNICATION STRATEGY THROUGH INSTAGRAM IN SHAPING THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT IMAGE https://jurcon.ums.edu.my/ojums/index.php/jkob/article/view/7929
The advancement of digital technology has transformed public communication practices, particularly in how governments utilize social media as a public relations tool. This study aims to analyze the digital public relations communication strategy employed by the Samarinda City Government through the Instagram platform in shaping the image of the local government. This research adopts a qualitative approach using a case study method, focusing on the Instagram account “samarinda.beradab” as the primary object of analysis. Data were collected through documentation and non-participatory observation of published content, supported by statistical data from social media analytics platforms. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative content analysis based on image-building indicators, including transparency, closeness, professionalism, responsiveness, and positive image. The findings reveal that the communication strategy is predominantly characterized by visual content presenting governmental activities accompanied by informative narratives. Such practices contribute to the construction of a transparent image through information disclosure, a sense of closeness through representations of interactions with the public, and a professional image through structured presentations of governmental activities. However, the relatively low to moderate level of audience engagement indicates that two-way interaction has not been fully optimized, suggesting that communication remains more informative than dialogical. This study concludes that social media plays a strategic role in shaping the image of local government; however, its effectiveness depends largely on the ability to implement interactive and participatory communication strategies. Therefore, local governments are encouraged to optimize social media not only as a tool for information dissemination but also as a dialogic space to enhance public engagement and strengthen a positive institutional image.
Asriadi Kusnadi Copyright (c) 2026 2026-06-01 2026-06-01 14 1 69 79 10.51200/jkob.v14i1.7929 EMPIRICAL ASSESSMENT OF GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES FOR COMMUNAL CONFLICT MEDIATION IN THE NORTH CENTRAL GEOPOLITICAL ZONE OF NIGERIA https://jurcon.ums.edu.my/ojums/index.php/jkob/article/view/7952
Conflict situations are endemic in the African continent, and Nigeria is not an exception.
