Abstract

ABSTRACT

 Quality of life among community influenced by level of education as it one of the determinant factor. This study aims at identifying the level of quality of life among Native Customary Right (NCR) landowners who were also Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA) development programme participants and its relationship  with quality of life in general. Using questionnaires, this study interviewed 300 household heads at the selected longhouses in Betong division, Sarawak. Data collected through contsructed questionnaire from previous study to examine the impact of level of education and it’s association to the quality of life among SALCRA participants. Quality of life among SALCRA participants directly and indirectly determines by the role of education factor as it one of the indicator to measure quality of life. Findings of the study revealed that the majority of SALCRA participants in the study area shows low level of education. Even, have small number it is 17.3 percent participants in this study did not go for formal education. The important of education to the quality of life in all aspect well known especially in this globalisation era of modern society. It is government objectives to involved rural community to fully participate in education to makesure everyone access to formal education. About 55.7 percent of the SALCRA participants go to primary school, make it the biggest number compare to those go to high school. The implications of level of education among SALCRA participants directly influence participants economy and occupation, as it one of important factor to improve the quality of life. Therefore, the emphasis and the need for opportunities in education, particularly in rural areas related to SALCRA participants, should be strengthened more accurately.

 

ABSTRAK

 Tahap pendidikan merupakan salah satu aspek yang boleh mempengaruhi kualiti hidup sesebuah komuniti. Kajian ini bertujuan mengkaji kualiti hidup pemilik tanah Hak Adat Bumiputera (NCR) yang terlibat sebagai peserta dengan Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA). Kajian ini dijalankan terhadap 300 peserta skim SALCRA yang tinggal di rumah panjang terpilih di Betong, Sarawak. Data dikumpul melalui borang soal selidik yang telah diadaptasi  daripada kajian terdahulu bertujuan untuk melihat impak tahap pendidikan terhadap kualiti hidup peserta SALCRA. Peranan faktor pendidikan peserta skim SALCRA menjadi indikator yang menentukan tahap kualiti hidup peserta skim SALCRA secara langsung mahupun tidak langsung. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa majoriti peserta skim SALCRA mempunyai tahap pendidikan rendah, malah terdapat sebilangan kecil iaitu (17.3%) responden dalam kajian ini tidak pernah menerima pendidikan formal. Dalam era globalisasi yang serba maju dan moden umum mengetahui kepentingan pendidikan ke atas kualiti hidup dan pihak pemerintah pula mengharapkan agar tidak ada keciciran dari aspek pendidikan berlaku terutamanya kepada masyarakat luar bandar. Di samping itu, peratusan responden yang menerima pendidikan sekolah rendah adalah yang teramai iaitu 55.7%. Aspek pendidikan dilihat sebagai salah satu faktor penting dalam meningkatkan tahap kualiti hidup. Implikasi tahap pendidikan responden ke atas kualiti hidup telah memberi impak ke atas pekerjaan dan ekonomi responden. Oleh itu, penekanan dan keperluan peluang dalam aspek pendidikan terutamanya melibatkan peserta SALCRA di luar bandar perlu diperkukuhkan dengan lebih jitu lagi.
