AIMS AND SCOPE

Tropical Forestry is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing dialogue and knowledge exchange among academicians, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers engaged in tropical forestry. The journal publishes high-quality papers that contribute to the sustainable management and development of tropical forest ecosystems, encompassing their biological, environmental, economic, and social dimensions.

The journal’s scope spans a broad range of topics from upstream to downstream forestry, including but not limited to:

Tropical Forestry welcomes manuscript submissions in the following categories: Research Article, Review Article, and Short Communication, all of which are published free of article processing charges (APC).

In addition, the journal features an Industry Paper section designed to serve the needs of professionals and practitioners. This section provides a platform to share applied experiences, innovative practices, and technological developments relevant to tropical forestry. The APC for an Industry Paper is USD 250 or MYR 1,000.

All submitted manuscripts undergo a single-blind peer-review process to ensure academic rigor and integrity. Accepted papers are published online under an Open Access model, enabling unrestricted global access to knowledge in tropical forestry.

 

TYPES OF ARTICLE

1. Research Article

Comprehensive papers that present original research findings contributing significantly to the understanding or advancement of tropical forestry. Manuscripts should clearly state the research objectives, describe the methods used, present detailed results, and provide a critical discussion supported by relevant literature.
Length: 3,500–5,000 words (excluding references, tables, and figures).

2. Review Article

Authoritative and critical reviews that synthesize and evaluate current knowledge within specific thematic areas of tropical forestry. Review Articles should offer integrative perspectives, highlight research trends and gaps, and propose future research directions. Both narrative and systematic reviews are accepted.
Length: Up to 7,000 words (excluding references, tables, and figures).

3. Short Communication

Concise papers that report novel findings, innovative methods, or significant field observations that warrant rapid dissemination. Short Communications should be focused, clearly structured, and provide sufficient context to convey the importance of the findings.
Length: Up to 3,500 words (excluding references, tables, and figures).

4. Technical Note

Brief articles focusing on the development, testing, or validation of new techniques, instruments, or analytical approaches relevant to tropical forestry research and practice. Technical Notes should emphasize methodological clarity, reproducibility, and potential applications.
Length: Up to 3,500 words (excluding references, tables, and figures).

5. Industry Paper / Graphical Abstract

Applied papers contributed by forestry professionals, agencies, or industry partners that describe practical case studies, technological developments, or field-based experiences relevant to tropical forestry. Manuscripts may include graphical or visual summaries highlighting implementation outcomes, lessons learned, and implications for sustainable forest management or policy.
Length: Up to 1,000 words (excluding references, tables, and figures).
