Open Access Statement

Open Access Policy
Our Commitment to Scientific Integrity and Open Access

At The Borneo Journal of Medical Sciences (BJMS), we are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of scientific rigour and editorial integrity. We actively promote the dissemination of high-quality medical and health-related research to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and address global healthcare challenges.

BJMS supports and implements open access principles to ensure that all published research is freely available, accessible without restriction, and reusable for the advancement of scientific knowledge and public benefit. Our platform enables authors to share their work transparently and allows global readers to access and build upon published findings without delay.

What is Open Access?

Open access refers to the immediate, free, and permanent availability of scholarly research online, without any subscription or access barriers. It allows full access not only to the research article itself but also to supporting materials such as methods, data, protocols, preprints, peer reviews, and post-publication discussions.

At BJMS, we adopt an open access model that encourages transparency, reproducibility, and inclusivity in scientific communication. We believe that unrestricted access to medical research benefits patients, researchers, educators, and society at large.

Benefits of Open Access at BJMS

1. Free and Unrestricted Sharing of Research
All BJMS articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) license. This permits users to read, download, share, adapt, and reuse content for non-commercial purposes, as long as the original authors and source are properly cited. This increases the visibility and impact of published research and aligns with many international funding agencies' open access policies.

2. Enhancing Transparency and Research Rigour
By openly sharing research methods, datasets, and evaluation processes, BJMS encourages a more transparent scientific ecosystem. This approach supports reproducibility, builds trust, and ensures that research findings undergo fair and thorough review.

3. Maximising Contribution to the Scientific Community
Publishing not only the final article but also key components of the research process (such as study protocols, data, and supplementary materials) enriches the scientific record and enables others to apply findings across a variety of contexts.

4. Expanding Reach and Encouraging Collaboration
Open access increases global readership and engagement by making research discoverable and accessible to all—regardless of institutional affiliation or geographic location. This creates new opportunities for cross-border collaboration, policy influence, and interdisciplinary application of medical knowledge.
