Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Aims and Scope

Jurnal Kinabalu is a peer-reviewed journal committed to advancing scholarly knowledge by encouraging discussions across diverse branches of social sciences and humanities. The journal shares articles and reviews that, through their content or approach, appeal to a wide audience of scholars. Although the primary focus is on social science and humanities studies, other pertinent articles are also considered for publication.

Published by Penerbit Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Jurnal Kinabalu is overseen by an independent Editorial Board comprising university staff members. This Board collaborates with a distinguished panel of scholars from local and international universities. 

SUBMISSION

Contributions should be strictly in Bahasa Malaysia or the UK English language. The text must be clear and concise, conforming to accepted standards of Bahasa Malaysia or English style and usage. For English manuscript written by non-native English speakers are advised to seek professional help with the language. Manuscripts are considered for publication on the condition that they are solely contributed to Jurnal Kinabalu and have not been published elsewhere. 

Initially, the manuscript will be assessed from an editorial point of view. Should the Editorial Office find the manuscript appropriate, it will enter the peer-review process. The corresponding author will then be informed of the evaluation along with editorial remarks. The preferred word processing program is Microsoft Word. Submission Fee/Processing Fee

Presently, there is no submission fee/ processing fee for any of the manuscripts.

Review process

This Journal ensures double-blind peer-reviewing.

GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING THE MANUSCRIPT

Title: A concise and informative title that accurately reflects the content of the article.

Authors' names and institutional affiliations.

Name of the department(s) and institution(s) to which the work should be attributed.

Corresponding author. Name and e-mail address of the corresponding author.

Abstract: A brief summary of the article, typically around 150-250 words, outlining the research question, methods, results, and conclusions.

Keywords: The authors should provide 3 to 5 keywords for indexing purposes.

Introduction: Provides background information on the topic, states the research question or problem, and outlines the significance of the study.

Literature Review: Surveys existing literature relevant to the research question, highlighting key findings, debates, and gaps in knowledge.

Methodology: Describes the research approach, research design, including participants, materials, procedures, and data analysis methods.

Results: Presents the findings of the study, usually through text, tables, and figures, without interpretation or discussion.

Discussion: Interprets the results in relation to the research question, compares findings to existing literature, and discusses implications.

Limitations: Acknowledge limitations and future research directions.

Conclusion: Summarizes the main findings of the study and their implications, often revisiting the research question and providing closure.

Acknowledgment: Acknowledgments, if any, should appear before References.

References: Lists all sources cited in the article following an APA citation style. Please click here for guidance. Authors are required to include at least one reference from previous publications in each article submitted to the Journal Kinabalu. 

Appendices (if applicable): Includes additional materials such as questionnaires, surveys, or raw data that are referenced in the article.
