About the Journal
Overview
The Journal of Smart Farming and Food Security (JSFFS) is a free, open-access, international, peer-reviewed journal published by Universiti Malaysia Sabah Press (UMS Press). JSFFS serves as a platform for the dissemination of high-quality original research articles, review papers, and short communications. Published biannually, the journal welcomes scholarly contributions across all areas of agricultural research. The journal assesses submissions based on the scientific merit and soundness of the work, not on subjective judgments of novelty or impact.
Scope
The journal offers a platform for publishing and sharing new findings from high-impact research in the agricultural sciences. Among the topics covered by the journal (not limited to topics) are as follows:

Publication Categories
Currently, the JSFFS publishes three categories of articles:

Language
All manuscripts submitted to the JSFFS must be written in English. Authors are expected to ensure that their manuscripts are written in clear, grammatically correct English to facilitate effective communication of the research. Manuscripts that do not meet acceptable language standards may be returned to the authors for revision prior to the review process.
Publication Frequency
The JSFFS is published biannually, with two issues per year. Accepted manuscripts are published online immediately after acceptance and production, and subsequently assigned to the next available issue.
Fees or Charges (Free)
The JSFFS currently does not charge any submission, processing, or publication fees. All accepted articles are published free of charge and made fully open access, allowing readers worldwide to freely access, download, and share the published research.
Open Access Policy
The JSFFS provides full and immediate open access, allowing all published articles to be freely available to readers worldwide without subscription or access fees. The journal does not charge authors, readers, or their institutions to access its content. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, and link to the full texts of articles, provided that proper credit is given to the original authors and source. This policy supports the wide dissemination and accessibility of research in smart farming and food security.
Indexing and Abstracting
Articles published in the JSFFS are assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) through Crossref to ensure persistent identification and easy citation. Published papers are also indexed and searchable through Google Scholar, enabling wider visibility and accessibility to the global research community.
The journal is continuously working to expand its indexing coverage and aims to be included in reputable indexing databases such as Malaysian Citation Index (MyCite), Scopus, and Web of Science (Wos) in the future. These efforts are part of the journal’s commitment to improving the quality, visibility, and impact of published research.
