The use of social media has grown rapidly after the revolution of internet usage causing more research to be done to evaluate its addictive power. The emergence of social media has more or less changed the lifestyle of students which can affect their life satisfaction and emotions. Hence, this study was conducted to identify the level of social media addiction among university students in Malaysia and to examine the relationship between addiction and students' life satisfaction and emotions. This study was conducted on 275 university students and found that the level of addiction of university students to social media was mild. In addition, the study found no significant relationship between social media addiction and life satisfaction of university students. However, the study found that there is a significant positive relationship between social media addiction and university students' emotions. This suggests that social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are associated with emotional development among university students. In light of this, minimum measures need to be taken to ensure that students who have problems with social media addiction do not continue leading to emotional disturbance problems.
