Ethics Statement
Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Turath Antara-Bidang (KITAB) is a scholarly publication issued by Penerbit UMS and managed by the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FIS), Universiti Malaysia Sabah. All submitted manuscripts are subject to a rigorous peer-review process. The journal is committed to maintaining high ethical standards and takes proactive measures to prevent any form of publication misconduct. Authors must ensure that their work is original, free from plagiarism, and compliant with recognised ethical frameworks, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Principles and Best Practice Guidelines.
In addition to conventional scholarly publications, KITAB accepts Scholarly Resource Articles, including manuscript catalogues, archival inventories, corpora, bibliographic databases, digital collections, and other research resources. Authors submitting such materials must ensure that they possess the necessary rights, permissions, or legal authority to publish, describe, reproduce, or disseminate the resource. Any restrictions relating to copyright, ownership, confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, or community rights must be clearly disclosed. The journal does not permit the publication of resources that violate intellectual property rights, ethical research standards, or applicable laws and regulations.
Ethical Guidelines for Publication
Upholding ethical standards in peer-reviewed publishing is essential to maintaining the integrity, credibility, and long-term value of academic scholarship. Articles published in KITAB reflect the scholarly integrity of the authors and their affiliated institutions. As a peer-reviewed journal, KITAB is committed to ensuring that all published works meet the highest standards of academic honesty, transparency, accountability, and professional conduct.
The publication process involves the collective responsibility of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. All parties are expected to adhere to ethical principles throughout the submission, review, editorial, and publication stages. The Faculty of Islamic Studies (FIS), Universiti Malaysia Sabah, as the journal manager, and Penerbit UMS, as the publisher, are committed to safeguarding the integrity of the scholarly record and ensuring that editorial decisions are made fairly, independently, and without discrimination.
For Scholarly Resource Articles, ethical responsibility extends beyond the accuracy of the accompanying article to include the authenticity, provenance, documentation, and lawful use of the resources being described. Authors are encouraged to provide sufficient information regarding the origin, methodology, accessibility, limitations, and potential reuse of such resources to facilitate responsible scholarly engagement and future research.
KITAB reserves the right to decline the publication of manuscripts, datasets, catalogues, archival materials, digital collections, or other scholarly resources whose provenance cannot be reasonably established or whose publication may infringe intellectual property rights, legal obligations, ethical standards, cultural sensitivities, or community rights.
