ABSTRAK
Makalah ini bertujuan menilai Teori Puitika Sastera Melayu sebagai teori sastera tempatan yang digagaskan oleh Muhammad Haji Salleh (1989). Teori ini mendapat perhatian ramai pengkaji dalam penelitian di peringkat sarjana dan PhD di Malaysia, Singapura dan Brunei. Sebahagian sarjana membandingkan teori ini dengan teori estetika di peringkat antarabangsa. Bagaimanapun sebagai teori sastera tempatan, teori ini mempunyai ciri tertentu yang boleh diteroka dan diterapkan dalam analisis penghasilan karya yang bersifat genius tempatan. Dengan itu, objektif kajian ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti ciri-ciri aplikasi Teori Puitika Sastera Melayu, menganalisis pandangan sarjana tentang kesesuaian Teori Puitika Sastera Melayu dan menilai keupayaan Teori Puitika Sastera Melayu sebagai sebuah teori tempatan. Metodologi penilaian terhadap teori ini berbentuk analisis secara kualitatif tentang kemungkinan praktis dari segi kestabilan Teori Puitika Sastera Melayu untuk mandiri dan berkembang di peringkat Asia Tenggara. Hasilnya, penilaian terhadap beberapa buah tesis dan tulisan kajian lain yang dilaksanakan di beberapa universiti di Asia Tenggara dinilai dari segi kesesuaian dan kekuatan serta kelemahannya. Cadangan hasil penilaian dan kemungkinan untuk Teori Puitika Sastera Melayu berkembang secara praktis dikemukakan dalam artikel ini.
ABSTRACT
This paper aims to evaluate the Malay Poetic Theory as a local literary theory that was initiated by Muhammad Haji Salleh (1989). This theory gained the attention of many researchers in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Some scholars compare this theory with the aesthetics theory. However, as a local literary theory, the Malay Poetic Theory has certain features that can be explored and applied in the analysis of the work of a local genius. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the application features of the Malay Poetic Theory, to analyse scholarly views on the suitability of the Malay Poetic Theory as a local theory and to evaluate its capability as a local theory. This theory is assessed using a qualitative method. It is analysed based on practical possibilities in terms of the stability of the Malay Poetic Theory to be self-sufficient and developed in Southeast Asia. As a result, the assessment of selected theses and written studies that were conducted at several universities in Southeast Asia were based on their suitability, strength and weakness. The proposed assessment results and the possibilities for the Malay Poetic Theory to be practically implemented were also analysed in this paper.
