Abstract This study analyzes the psychological unsurts embedded in modern KOMSAS poetry using a qualitative approach through textual analysis. The focus of the study is on a modern poem entitled “Kuingin Berterima Kasih”, published in the anthology Kuingin Berterima Kasih. The research problem arises from the fact that literary works, particularly modern KOMSAS poems, are often analyzed in terms of theme, language style, and moral values, yet they receive less attention from a psychological perspective, which can provide a deeper understanding of the human experiences portrayed by the author. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify, describe, and evaluate the psychological unsurts contained in the poem based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs, specifically the two basic levels, namely physiological needs and safety needs. The findings indicate that the psychological unsurts presented in the poem play a significant role in helping readers comprehend the implicit meanings intended by the poet. The implication of this study highlights that applying a psychological approach in literary analysis not only enriches the appreciation of literary works but also broadens readers’ understanding of the humanitarian values emphasized in the text.
