Abstract

Tujuan utama kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk melihat hubungan antara penguasaan jawi dan kurikulumnya dengan proses pengajaran guru di sekolah-sekolah rendah di negara Brunei Darussalam. Subjek kajian terdiri daripada 150 orang guru yang mengajar mata pelajaran Jawi di sekolah-sekolah terpilih dengan menggunakan
persampelan berstrata dan rawak mudah di seluruh negara. Instrumen kajian terdiri daripada set ujian tulisan jawi untuk mengukur penguasaan jawi guru dan juga soal selidik bagi mengenalpasti penguasaan kurikulum dan proses pengajaran guru di dalam bilik darjah. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensi (Korelasi
Pearson) bagi menguji hipotesis-hipotesis kajian. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara variabel-variabel bebas dengan variabel bersandar kajian iaitu r = 0.228 (penguasan jawi) dan r = 0.573 (penguasaan kurikulum). Secara umumnya kajian juga menunjukkan skor markah atau skor min
bagi kesemua variabel kajian adalah pada tahap yang memuaskan. Diharapkan kajian ini dapat memberikan input berguna kepada penambahbaikan mata pelajaran jawi.

The main aim of the study was to determine the relationship between jawi (Arabic script) acquisition and its curriculum in the process of teaching in primary schools of Brunei Darrussalam. There were 150 jawi teachers selected throughout the country via the process of stratified and simple random samplings. The instruments consist of jawi’s writing test employed to measure the teachers’ jawi acquisition and a questionnaire to identify the curriculum acquisition and the process of teaching in the classroom. Data were analysed descriptively and inferentially (Pearson correlation) to test the hypothesis. Findings of the study showed that there was a positive statistically correlation between the independent and dependent variables, r = 0.228 (jawi acquisition) dan r = 0.573 (curriculum acquisition). Generally, the study showed that the score mark or the mean score for all variables was at the level of satisfactorily. It is hoped that this study would provide a useful input in enhancing Jawi subject.
