Integrity & Accountability Policies

The Borneo International Journal of Education (BIJE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, editorial transparency, and professional accountability throughout the publication process. The journal promotes responsible scholarly communication by ensuring that all participants—including authors, reviewers, editors, editorial board members, and the publisher—conduct themselves ethically, honestly, and professionally in accordance with internationally recognised standards of academic publishing.

BIJE supports the principles of transparency, fairness, independence, and accountability in scholarly publishing. Editorial decisions are based solely on the academic merit, originality, methodological rigour, significance, and relevance of submitted manuscripts without discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, institutional affiliation, political beliefs, or personal relationships.

1. Research Integrity

BIJE expects all research submitted for publication to be conducted and reported honestly, accurately, and responsibly. Authors must present authentic research findings without fabrication, falsification, selective reporting, or manipulation of data, images, or results. The journal promotes transparency in research methodology, data interpretation, and reporting to ensure the credibility and reproducibility of published work.

2. Editorial Independence

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board exercise full editorial independence in all publication decisions. Editorial decisions are made solely on scholarly merit and are not influenced by commercial interests, sponsorship, advertising, institutional affiliations, or external pressure.

The publisher shall not interfere with editorial evaluations, peer-review decisions, or publication outcomes.

3. Accountability of Authors

Authors are accountable for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their submitted work. By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that:

  • the manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere;

  • all data and findings are accurate and honestly reported;

  • appropriate ethical approval has been obtained where applicable;

  • all contributors who meet authorship criteria are appropriately acknowledged;

  • all potential conflicts of interest have been disclosed; and

  • the manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.

Authors remain responsible for cooperating with the journal should corrections, clarifications, or retractions become necessary after publication.

4. Accountability of Editors

Editors are responsible for managing the editorial process fairly, consistently, and confidentially. They shall ensure that manuscripts receive objective evaluation through a rigorous double-blind peer-review process and that editorial decisions are based exclusively on scholarly quality.

Editors are also responsible for addressing ethical concerns, publication misconduct, complaints, and appeals promptly and fairly, following internationally accepted ethical guidelines.

5. Accountability of Reviewers

Reviewers play a critical role in safeguarding the quality and integrity of scholarly publications. They are expected to provide objective, constructive, evidence-based, and timely evaluations while maintaining strict confidentiality throughout the review process.

Reviewers shall disclose any conflicts of interest that could affect their impartiality and decline review invitations whenever such conflicts exist.

6. Transparency in Editorial Processes

BIJE is committed to maintaining transparency throughout its editorial workflow. The journal clearly communicates its submission procedures, peer-review process, editorial policies, publication ethics, copyright arrangements, and publication model through its official website.

Editorial policies are reviewed periodically to ensure alignment with evolving international publishing standards and best practices.

7. Management of Complaints and Appeals

BIJE welcomes legitimate complaints concerning editorial decisions, publication ethics, peer review, or journal management.

All complaints and appeals shall be handled objectively, confidentially, and without prejudice. The Editor-in-Chief, together with the Editorial Board where appropriate, will investigate each case fairly and communicate decisions based on evidence and established journal policies.

8. Corrections to the Scholarly Record

Maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record is a fundamental responsibility of BIJE.

Where significant errors, inaccuracies, or ethical concerns are identified after publication, the journal may issue corrections, corrigenda, expressions of concern, or retractions, depending on the nature and severity of the issue. Such actions will be undertaken transparently and in accordance with internationally recognised publishing ethics guidelines.

9. Continuous Improvement

BIJE is committed to continually strengthening its editorial practices, peer-review procedures, ethical policies, and publication standards. The Editorial Board regularly reviews journal policies to ensure compliance with international best practices and to promote trust, accountability, and excellence in scholarly publishing.
