Plagiarism Screening Policy
The Borneo International Journal of Education (BIJE) is committed to preventing plagiarism and self-plagiarism in accordance with internationally recognised publication ethics standards and the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1. Plagiarism Detection and Similarity Screening
All manuscripts submitted to BIJE are screened using Turnitin, with a maximum similarity of 20%, excluding references and other applicable materials. Similarity scores are subject to editorial assessment and do not automatically indicate plagiarism. Manuscripts may be returned for revision or rejected based on the nature and extent of the identified concerns.
2. Definition and Forms of Plagiarism
BIJE defines plagiarism as the use of another person's ideas, words, data, or research findings without proper acknowledgement. This includes direct copying, improper paraphrasing, self-plagiarism, unattributed use of multiple sources, and misrepresentation of references.
All suspected cases are carefully assessed by the editorial team, taking into account the nature, extent, and circumstances of the identified concerns before any editorial decision is made.
3. Proper Citation and Attribution
Authors must appropriately acknowledge all sources of ideas, theories, data, research findings, and other intellectual contributions through accurate citations and references. Direct quotations and reused materials, including authors' previously published work, must be properly attributed in accordance with applicable copyright and licensing requirements. All references must be accurate, verifiable, and free from misrepresentation.
Information widely recognised as common knowledge within a particular academic discipline may not require citation. However, authors are encouraged to provide appropriate references whenever the source or interpretation of information may reasonably be questioned.
BIJE reserves the right to reject manuscripts or withdraw acceptance where plagiarism or serious violations of academic integrity are established following appropriate editorial assessment.
